New at raising anything other than cats and dogs! Have 25 Australorps and they are in their 12th week of living! We got them at one day of age and boy are they PETS! Each has their own personality and fastly being named with each day that passes. Boy what we have been missing in having Chickens as pets! Looking to raise them for eggs as my daughter would not even consider them as table food!

Oh you picked a GREAT breed!! Love those Aussies!! They are the sweetest breed of chicken if you ask me. I keep them too and wow, they are love machines! Lap sitters too. They are great on the laying and are just fun to have around. Wait until they get to laying age...they will get even more sweet. (and you didn't think that was possible, did you!) LOL I just love my Aussies!!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. I have 25 hens as well, and 7 of them are Black Australorps. I have raised Black Australorps for years and they are my favorite, standard breed; very hardy, calm and gentle (my children, and now my granddaughter, made lap pets out of them), and they are the best layers of the standard, brown egg laying breeds (you are going to get a lot of eggs out of all those hens).
