Border Collie and Border Collie mix thread!

I was searching threw BYC and came across an old border collie thread that didnt really go anywhere. It was only a few pages and the last post was last year. So, I have decided to make a new border collie thread for all those border collie people out there.

Below is my border collie named Zoey. She is a year old and I got her from a local firefighter who had rescued a litter of puppies from someone who wasnt giving them proper care. She is very energetic and is also very loving. She is a fantastic dog and is a great companion.

Heres my Bridgit - My 1 1/2 year old border collie / cattle dog mix.

She was adopted from the local humane society, and is a sweetheart!

We had a super rough start (my fault) , But these days, she's doing great!

She goes just about everywhere with me. I exersize her for hours daily, just

running around the yard playing ball, then we walk up and down the road for

a while, and she's doing great in training! Super smart! When she's INSIDE,

she either sleeps under my feet, or near me, until I move. No matter how tired

border collies seem to be, it's like they always have one eye open. Watching

everything, ready to go.

She weighed 22 pounds when we first adopted

her, ribs were showing. She now weighs about 30 pounds, and it went on rather

quick. I really think the other two cattle dogs that were housed with her wouldn't

let her eat. I don't think she'll put on much more, with as much energy she's got.

My border collie, Diamond. She's a nuclear powerplant with fur. Very toy driven and eats like a pig (but doesn't gain a pound to show for it.) We rescued her at 3 years of age and she was 31 lbs. She's now up to 34-36 lbs and the vet would like to see her get to 38. We were laughing about it as he said, "Just feed her till she pops.. she's too active to hold on the weight. She won't get fat on you." She was on Wellness Core Performace diet and was eating 3 times what the bag said she should. Yes, she has been checked for worms and such.. she's healthy... just super high energy. She's also very storm and gun shy.. but just runs to a hiding spot to wait things out.

We actually got Diamond in mid-November of that year. She's been great for Jewel. Even though she's 13 years old, since we got Diamond, Jewel's acted like she's 6 again. They wrestle (Diamond is gentle and is careful not to hurt Jewel) and play tag. Jewel went from sleeping all day in the bathroom to playing with Diamond and following the family through daily business.

This was Diamond on the day we brought her home from Ruff Mutts Border Collie Rescue. She was playing with what was Jewel's stuffed squirrel.. it lasted about 5 minutes. I think she was happy to have a home.

It hasn't been all sunshine though.. while Diamond is a wonderful, intelligent, sweet dog.. we found out two weeks in that she had major aggression issues that apparently never reared themselves while she was in the rescue. Two weeks in, I took her to her first obedience class and she attacked a cattle dog sitting just inside the door upon walking in. Our trainer, after teaching us for a two weeks said that it was one of the worst dog aggression cases she'd seen in her 20 years of training. Of course, by that time, I had already bonded with her and couldn't justify giving her back because of her aggression. So working with her steadily for a year and a half, we taught her to behave better. I can now take her off leash at a dog park or in training class without worrying about her flipping out for no reason. She's getting to the point now that even when a dog picks on her, she shows them her teeth and comes to me so that I can get the other dog to leave her alone. She does have occasional episodes, but its nothing like what she was when she started.

While she often tries my patience, she really is a great dog and I'm glad to have her in my life.

My border collie Junie right after we got her.

We met her at an adoption day that was hosted at the park, decided to think about it for a little bit. Was worried about her so decided to go to the pound a couple days later to see if she had been adopted, she had not and was just one day away from being pts. She has been a great dog other than she does not like men or children and thinks cats would make a good chew toy.

This is Luke, my 10 month old Border Collie given to me by a friend from their litter of pups. I also have a St Bernard and a lab mix but I love this BC. He is uber smart!
