Border Collies, Australian Shepherds, All Herding breeds, Tell Me About Yours

Honestly I’ve meet lots of dogs that are neurotic, all types of breeds:(. It’s important to find a good breeder one that knows pup temperaments and what you want. It’s also important to be very honest with yourself and decide what traits you want and what doesn’t work for you. For example one of Shelties is high energy. His energy outlet is agility and we are suited perfectly! If he didn’t have agility and had gone to a sedentary home were he would be left alone for long hours and no exercise, I’m sure he would have become neurotic. My other Sheltie is just fine being a couch potato. Two very different temperaments.
How much barking do they do? The neighbor dog is crazy, but they don't know how to handle dogs. I would assume they bark, but they can also be taught to be quiet? I am really starting to like the breed. Yours are gorgeous. :)

I would like a dog that plays ball. Do sheltie like to fetch?
Saw a gorgeous sheltie today :love
I'm really starting to like their looks and size. :)

I haven't read all the posts but I gather the topic has moved off Border Collies.
There is breed I had, more or less, ignored thinking them a bit poodleish; that breed is the standard size Shnauzer. I've met a few and they have always impressed me. If I was considering a dog of my own in my later years they would be high on my list. They are smart, at least all those I've met were. They seem to be extremely stable dogs and very adaptable.
They also have characterful faces I find hard not to like which isn't the case with many dogs.

I have two Shetland sheepdogs. I was worried about introducing our new chickens, but it went seamlessly. They seem to know they are not to be chased(they love herding squirrels). My Shelties compete in agility. Love them to pieces.
I keep going back and looking at your gorgeous dogs. Do you brush them daily? My Aussies I generally brush every month, more when it's shedding season, which is half the year. :)

They are definitely a gorgeous smart looking breed. They also are very strong minded breed which I'm not sure if they would fit in here. I have always admired their good looks. You should get one. :)

I’m pretty sure you can teach them to be quiet, yes. :)

I think someone on another thread had said theirs still barks but they just steal her to be quiet and she stops. :)

And I think there was someone with one that loveeees to play fetch. :D

And yes the size is really nice!! Small enough to take places or whatever but still active enough. I may consider one now too lol

And they really are pretty dogs. :love

This one was pretty dark but just gorgeous. Looked well groomed and taken care of.

That's good to know. Sounds like I have 2 good breed options for me. :)

Yeah they’re great little dogs!! And I’m sure it’s all about training and what you introduce them to early on and stuff. So if you teach them to be quiet right from the beginning, they probably will be or if you introduce them to a tennis ball/teach fetch early on, they’ll probably love it. :) of course I’m sure some are more inclined to naturally love it but even if not, most dogs can be taught to play. :) And you’re a great owner so you’ll do fine.
