Thanks so much! I can set up some conditions so they can freely engage in their natural behaviors!While my experience is still limited, I think that rather than treats and toys it's important to set up conditions in which chickens can be chickens and freely engage in their natural behaviors.
If they have the ability to freely scratch and forage and dig and dustbathe and sunbathe and perch and work out their flock dynamics they shouldn't be bored.
I didn't know about the "forest floor" concept when I setup my in-town flock but inadvertently used a lot of those elements. Now that I do know I am making use of that concept more consciously. I'm convinced that animals thrive best in an environment that best simulates their natural conditions.![]()
