I have 2 2wk old Buff Orpingtons, 2 1wk old Aracaunas, and 2 3day old Silver Laced Wyandottes. I have been taking them outside for a little bit the past few days (the littlest ones only yesterday since I just got them and they were too chilly), and they love it. One of them found a worm yesterday - I was so proud!
Today, however, the weather has shifted yet again, and it was too chilly and dreary to take them outside. They ARE NOT happy about that! I went out into the garage where they are in their brooder a little bit ago, and heard all sorts of ruckus going on in there - looked in and they are running around like fools, and one of the BO's is trying to fly up and out of the brooder (I have a screen on top so she's out of luck there though). I have goodies in there to play with, like a log, pine cones, and a cat toy - any other ideas that could keep them happy until I get my coop and run up (which if it doesn't stop raining here, could be 3-4 more weeks)?
Also, I was very surprised to see that one of the tiny Wyandotte babies seems to be running the show in there. If anyone, including the big BO's, wants to go check anything out, she has to go running over there and pecks at them and starts talking away. Is this typical for this breed? Everyone else gets along pretty well - she's the first one I've seen have any sort of behavior like that.
