BOSS for a treat

Can chickens have BOSS (Black Oil Sunflower Seeds) whole with the shell as a treat?

It took me quite some time to figure out what BOSS was lol.

Yes. Just remember that all treats combined should not exceed 10% of the total diet.

Yes, they can have BOSS. The first thing my chickens do when I let them out of the run in the morning is make a beeline to the bird feeders where they happily scarf up any BOSS the birds have billed out onto the ground.

I just have a small bowl that I put dried meal worms and some scratch in for our evening get together. So looking for other things to put in the treat bowl.

We use BOSS to distract the chickens when the PIC (my Partner In Chickens, 8 y/o kiddo) goes into their run with their feed. I normally toss a hand full into the middle of their run, and then the PIC pours half their feed into one trough, then heads to the other side to pour out the rest while they are distracted.

It's hilarious to watch, as the chickies are catching on to what we do... and are up in the air about whether or not to chase the BOSS or the PIC!!!

Raisins, raw pumpkin seeds, raw peanuts.
