Boston? or around there?

I was disappointed. We didn't even get an inch of rain. The winds were strong, but nothing too bad. Once again the weather dweebs hyped the heck out of a fairly routine storm.

Yeah, they said wind gusts up to 70 mph where we are, but my DH checked two annomometers (sp? - wind measuring devices) and they both showed the highest gusts were 53 mph.

We got diddly in the rain department...
Even the wind wasn't as bad as it could've been.
Neither of the girls wanted to go out.
A few places down the Cape are still without power, and a couple of houses got knocked around on the beaches, but it could've been a lot worse.

You know what's funny? This photo was taken the evening before the storm hit. Whatever happened to "Red Sky at Night, Sailor's Delight"???

Yeah....but that aint red......thats everything other possible color......next time you will remember what to expect when you see the most beautiful sky EVER!!!!!
BTW......smithsonian (sp) has a photo contest every year...you should enter that pic in it.

Nice photo, Buff, and I saw the same sunset and thought the same thing. Lurky, that photo doesn't do it justice, it was most definitely a red sunset. I guess it was trying to tell us that it wasn't going to be as bad a day as the weather-dweebs were predicting

And now for something completely different, does anybody have room in their flock for this friendly guy?

He's a chicken that just lost his duck companion. They were all that's left of a flock that was divided up when their caretaker died two years ago. I've been bringing him treats and fresh water every morning on my way to work. He's very friendly, and eats treats out of my hand. He also got along very well with his duck friend.

I posted his photo in the breed section, and so far, people think he looks like a Silver Pencil Wyandotte, but not with perfect breed coloration.

His tail is normally 21" long. He looks a little scruffy here because he just went through a huge moult in early October.

I thought I'd offer him to you New England guys first.

I would deliver him within a three hour drive , or meet someone part-way.

Somerville here!

I just checked with city hall, and it's legal to raise chickens here, as long as the neighbors don't complain. So no crowing, I guess. I'll chat with the neighbors over the winter so they'll know I'm planning and see what they think. The goal is chickens in the yard next spring!

I have a fairly small yard (30x30), but plenty of room for a small pen with a hutch for the chickens.

Part of my planning will be to raccoon and skunk-proofing any enclosure. And a plan for foiling human varmints too.

What breeds do best in New England?

Any advice welcome!
