Both chickens dead in the coop 😞

For all of you in scorching heat, we bought a super cheap like $22 misting system off Amazon and it is CRAZY how much it helps. The hot days I puge all the hose and lines of the hot water, hook it up, and flip on the spigot. The chickens attitudes change immediately! They all jump up to roost on the shaded bar in the mist fluffing up dancing around. Was a great investment for us!

We used a mister, but after it sat through the winter, when we used it the next season, it smelled of mildew. I couldn’t run bleach through it, so I discarded it.

Yeah ours is starting to get some mineral build up on it i was just planning to toss it at the end of the season and get a new one next year lol

So sorry for your loss. :hugs We are in the Dallas area and its been really hot here. I don't know what I would do if I lost my own Cinnamon Queen. They have such great personalities!

Ugh. We started having a hen hotel inside (a bunch of large dog crates) for the ones that were struggling immensely, fans and all. After I lost one hen overnight, lots of things changed. Now I'm always watching the nest boxes during the day, and have the red fans (linked at the bottom) pointed into the nest boxes, and I wait until after dark to look at everyone on the roost to see which ones are having the hardest time- and those get a night in the hotel.

Since most of the year I'm trying to keep the rain and wind out, this time of year is the hardest. One of my best weapons is the poultry exhaust fan that installs easily with 4 screws and plugs into an outlet. https://www.valleyvet.com/ct_detail.html?pgguid=D74B298D-3C6F-4287-9F9F-4EA09B8D0A73

It's made to deal with the incredible amount of dust chickens create (very few fans are!!) and does 2 things really well. 1. Draws hot air out 2. Creates a constant breeze out in the run. I have it installed across from the "people" door, which is a metal security screen door one would use on the outside of a front door so there's always airflow in the summer, but really all that's needed is an opening across from it to keep the air moving through the coop.

The other thing was installing fans to blow across every roost. The least dangerous and best one for leaving on the floor, pointed up at their undersides. Each fan has an outlet- so you can plug each fan into the other, VERY handy with limited outlets. I run 3 one outlet.

I like these because there's no spinning blade where a chicken can hurt themselves - I always have chicks of some age running around- and it's super easy to clean if you have a long pair of tweezers when it sucks in feathers.
