Both chickens missing tail feathers and some blood

Hi! I'm a new chicken mother and am worried about my two ladies because they're both suddenly missing feathers at front of their tails, some are broken off and I saw a bit of dried blood. Could this just be normal due to stress from all the snow we had in Portland, OR and they couldn't get out or they're pecking themselves? They seem happy and out all over the yard and taking dust baths but I was going to get some Diatomaceous earth to put under their straw to be safe. I'm just not sure if I need to schedule a vet appointment or give it a little time. Thanks for any and all input!
