I definitely will have australorps and cochins. The breeds I would really love your experiences with are speckled sussex, orpingtons, Easter eggers and Rhode Island reds. I am trying to make fair evaluations on these breeds to have a solid efflatinf flock as the broodies should be handled nicely by the cochins. Any and all experiences and advisement welcome thank you!

I only have chicks right now, but I have a Speckled Sussex (two weeks) and a Silver Laced English Orp (4 weeks). The Sussex is VERY curious and fearless - a little skittish to be picked up right now, but once you have her she's fine. Strong flyer. Beautiful bird already even without her adult feathering. She's the leader of the flock of younglings. I can see her fearlessness being a con eventually though, as she is not afraid to put herself in harm's way.

The Orp chick I have is very awkward, gentle, submissive even though she's one of the largest two chicks in the brooder and seems kind of... slow, for lack of a nicer term, lol. She's very sweet though, and the one who enjoys being cuddled the most out of all the chicks I have.
