We are new to sheep. My daughter has been bottle feeding two lambs. One is now about 35 lbs and the other is around 16 lbs. We would like to start weaning the older lamb. Our question is how? We have a small dry pen that we feed creep and hay in, and another pen that we move around in our backyard for grazing. We do not have pasture, and our intent is to sell these lambs as soon as the smaller one is weaned. Do we leave creep feed out in large quantities for them to eat at will? My daughter is afraid to do that, because she lost a 9 day old lamb to bloat that decided to eat a whole dog dishes worth of creep. We would like to maybe switch them to barley instead of creep as well.
I guess we need to know how to feed these lambs in a dry pen, because they are on limited grass. The older one is on two lamb replacer bottles a day of about 1 1/2 cups each, and the younger lamb is on 3 bottles of 2 cups each.
Thanks for any help that you can give us.
