Bottle raising rabbits, help me?

Congrats on the babies should be grown by now. Have a question for all you rabbit people. Have a doe who lost her litter and another that had 6 but she only has 4 teats. Can I foster 2 with the mom that lost hers. I have held her to let them nurse and she didn' get upset. Help please.

Most of my does have accepted kits without missing a beat. The best scenario would be putting them in her nest, which would still smell like her.

If you split this litter, I would give the smaller number to the doe with the inadequate udder. Normally, a doe produces the same amount of milk, regardless of litter size, and just a couple of babies get the same as half a dozen or more. When you have a litter with only one or two kits, they tend to get extremely fat, and that can lead to skeletal and digestive issues. Just a thought.

I guess it might depend on how the first litter was lost. If you just don't feel you can trust the doe, that's one thing, but my does don't seem to notice whose babies they are nursing, even if none of them are theirs.

Look healthy to me! we've always done KMR. Our little bottle baby bunny sadly didn't make it, but he was also a sickly runt. Are you sure the mother's milk never came in? It's never happened to me. I've had 15 or so litters. Sometimes they won't start feeding for a day or so. You'll never notice the momma feeding, she does it when it gets dark outside. But, if they were skinny, maybe something was up.

Kits never look fat though, you can usually see some bones. Don't put them back with the doe now, her milk has probably dried up, even if she had it in the first place.
