Bought a hen at a swap on last Saturday, June 16th, and was told she is almost two years old and still laying. I bought another chicken with her, an Aracauna of the same age, and that one does lay. I've gotten two eggs so far, but nothing from this one. Is this normal? Is she just old and not laying as much as she would've when she was younger? Is she stressed? Should I supplement her diet? Is there any way to check whether or not she lays eggs by looking at her vent? I checked to see how wide her pelvic gap was, and I could fit two, ALMOST three fingers between the pelvic bones, which is the same with my other egg layers.. well, except my Dominique where I could fit almost four. Funny considering she lays the smallest eggs. Anyways, no one is picking on this new hen. Everyone gets a long just fine. Her appetite seems healthy and I've seen her in the nesting boxes as if she was going to lay, but never does. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also, I have no idea what breed of chicken she is. I made a separate post about that in the breeds section though.

****Just found out she also has bumblefoot. It's quite apparent in the second picture. Her feathers are also dull and quite dry, which leads me to believe she's vitamin deficient as well. Could this have something to do with her now laying, aside from being new to the flock?****

She looks like a production red of some type, give her some more time- I have found they lay great but when they are stressed they take off longer, the price for 4-6 eggs a week...

I have found that it takes up to 2 weeks for a hen to feel comfortable in her new and start laying again....
