Bought a house that came with a coop but I need some advice on this setup.

Any updates on the coop so far?
A friend with more building experience is helping us out, but thought it was not worth the effort to make the roof even because I can only stand up in the highest part of the slanted roof.
We turned the large fixed window into two hinged ones, added an automatic door, took out the top brooder floor, added vents on the sides and covered the run with hardware cloth. We will be putting clear corrugated roofing tiles over the run next weekend and then it should be ready for the six 25 cent chicks that I couldn’t resist once they are fully feathered.

Great job so far, I love automatic coop doors!
Cute chicks! :)

Would be good to see more pics, inside and outside and all around, so we can really see what all you're working with.

Ditto Dat!

Couple things to keep in mind:
Getting older birds may get you eggs faster, but also can bring in pests and/or disease.
Adding birds works best with extra space, integration is a whole other learning curve.
Some online hatcheries are selling/shipping 6 week old pullets. My Pet Chicken is in the northeast.

I would get a power washer to clean the coop. The wood will shine up well. Then in the spring you could put a coat of wood shingle seal on it.
Not a good idea to drench a wood coop with liquid.
Read thru the whole thread, they got it cleaned up and modified nicely.

I believe My Pet Chicken is a brokerage that contracts drop shipments from all over the country.

I'd recommend washing the coop as well - maybe spray the whole coop and run down with some vet disinfectant like F10 - only possible issue with a used coop and run - disease and parasites have had time to establish. With new equipment, there's a bit of a grace period while greebles move in.

That's news to me. Tracking my chicks says; Shipped from facility, to first stop Ohio distribution center at 6 p.m., then to Boise Idaho distribution center 6 p.m., then to my rural area in southern Idaho at six a.m. They ship on Mondays and I have them by early Wednesday morning. Nice little trip across the U.S.
