I haven't used it yet.

Anyone have helpful hints or recipes to share?

Nothing to share. I don't have one, but I know my sister and her family love hers. They do lots of smoothies. They even took it on vacation to the beach.

We bought ours at a fair in 1983. Gave it to my sister about 20 years ago. She still uses it.

I have never had one, so I am no help, but I have heard they are wonderful to have. I knew someone that had one and she was able to even grind grains in it! There must be websites for Vita-mix recipes. I would love to get one if they weren't so darn expensive.

There is a website for recipes but I wanted some personal smoothie experience feedback.

Well, I just through together a peach smoothie using peaches, fat free half/half, dash cinnamon, ice and sugar free vanilla pudding. It was pretty good.

This thing will even boil soup.

Yeah Buddy, I'd be taking mine to the beach too, along certain beverage mixes!

It's been awhile since I made smoothies but I would use a couple handfuls of fresh strawberries, slice a banana in, a cup of vanilla yogurt, some honey to taste and ice.

My sis and her hubby bought one for "nutritious smoothies" = she'd come back from Afganistan seriously underweight and not well at all. It was key to getting easily absorbed nutrients into her; I've heard that it is very helpful for those on chemo too. Carrot+spinach+apple was popular. She's not allergic to milk like me so lots of milk and fruit ones too. Frozen bananas plus milk good. It took awhile; but she's much better now. I want one for that and the bread/grain capabilities, as well as healthier smoothies/juices. And cheaper rice milk when its homemade. Good luck with yours! Let us know how its going with the bread/grain

You have to have a container with a special blade to grind the grain...it was $100 or $59 with a "buy it now" coupon and I just couldn't see paying that much more over what it already cost.
