Hello, i bought some chicks from the tractor supply and i have 4 white rock and 2 isa chickens i believe, but i heard that white rocks are mixed with cornish so they dont live long or something like that? because there going to be treated as pets. I really am hoping that there just white rocks because all the paper said was white rocks didnt say mixed with anything. Also with them can you tell the sex by there feathers? Or how does that work

Congrats on your chicks! You could try and figure out the definite breed by asking them what hatchery they came from and contacting them (personally our TS messed up the gender and breed of our chicks - but that doesnt mean this one did). Breed can have some influence on how old a chicken gets, but it really just dpends on their health and genes.

It's too soon to tell gender - if they were sold as straight run you'll have to wait for their feathering and combs to develop (only trained pros can sex day old chicks - and only then with 90 percent accuracy). Other ways are just a crud shoot at this point - feathers, holding them a certain way - old wives tales. For now just enjoy them!

There are white Rocks, and then there are Cornish X (some people may call them Cornish Rocks). TSC didn't know which they were? Cornish X are the meat birds. Plain old white Rocks are no different than any other chicken.

Did they say if they were sexed or straight run? You won't be able to sex them by looking at their wings.

I know the sign on the box was white rock but i thought the ones called white rock were the meat chicke. Crosses and the 4 white rocks were straight run and the 2 isa are pullets lol and thank you fr the replies

I got some TSC chicks and so far mines doing great their little over 2weeks old now and their thriving with life chriping and trying to fly all over the place

I got some TSC chicks like yours and mine are doing great their a little over 2weeks now and their all chrippy and trying to fly everywhere I can post some pics if you want??

Mine kinda liok like that do white rocks looks the same as cornish ?? Im going to be pussed if there cocornish..

Welcome! White Plymouth Rocks are NOT the same as Cornishx; the Cornishx are very fast growing meat birds, meant to be in the freezer at eight weeks of age, before many of them are dying of heart failure and bad joint failure. The white Rocks are a very nice larger dual purpose meat and egg layer. Find out what hatchery the birds came from, and call them! If you have Cornishx chicks, they are not pets and won't be able to live long, so don't give them names and think it will go well long term. Mary
