We've had a chicken sitting "on her nest" for 3 days....finally figured out that she wasn't broody when she didn't produce any eggs. Brought her in and checked out the back end. It was pasty and gross. I washed her with warm water and noticed she was straining. I massaged her trying to feel if there was an egg stuck. A little poop came out. I repeated the massaging, and more poop came out. Did this a few more times and Whoosh!!! a massive amount of poop came out with a hard calcified "thing"...not egg shaped, more like a fragment of a shell. I cleaned her up, and got her to drink some water. Took her back out to the hen house and she drank some more water. This a.m. she was back in her box....this aft., still in her box. I picked her up and checked for blockage, nothing noticable...so I put her outside with the other girls. She was NOT happy with me, but she took off across the yard. Tonight she was back in the box, so hubby put her back outside and the other chickens and rooster started picking at her. At the moment she is back in the box.

What is going on , and what do I do next.?? I don't know if she's eating...haven't seen her out of the box except when I take her out.

Keep her rear clean and do more massaging stuff. You could also GENTLY pour warmed olive oil down her vent IF she is still egg bound. Give her water, but no food for a day or so, to slow egg production. Hope she does well!

I don't think she's egg bound....I'm beginning to wonder if she's broody???? Why do you think the others have started picking on her?

Maybe she's become an internal layer and has gotten very weak. Is her abdomen bloated? When she stands, is she hunched over, like she's sick, or standing more upright, like a penguin?

No, abdomen isn't bloated. When I sit her down, she sort of squats until I insist that she move.....then she walks normally......and hollars at me for making her move.
