Just harvested my first B.R. Turkey that I grew out this year and disappointed in the meat. It is super fatty especially in the breast cavity. Hardly any breast meat at all. I was expecting less then a BB white but not like this. Not sure what happened. Anybody have this happen or have experience?

How old was your turkey they need at least 6 or 7 months to fill out? My heritage jakes are usually around 13 to 15 pounds dressed at 6 to 7 months. To get my toms 17 to 20 pounds dressed they need to be in the 1 1/2 to 2 year old range. How fatty they are depends on what you feed them.

They were about 6 1/2 months old. They ate a bunch of different foods. They did eat chicken layer feed……. More then k would have liked because they free twanged together. Could that have made them fatty? What do you feed yours?
