Like the others have said the more forage you can give them the better. You can also boil back eggs and feed them to the birds, that gives extra protien and calcium all in one shot. We plant extra extra Collard greens in our garden for the birds- they all really like the dark leafy cabbage type greens. Here in NC the winters are mid enough that we have a year round supply and that helps alot on the feed bill.
