First time raising turkeys, bought (3) bourbon x royals.. Also they were straight run, only about A month old currently. So one will be a thanksgiving dinner No matter what.

questions

Anyone have pictures of what they will look like later in life
when will i be able to tell jake vs hen
when will they start gobbling
What will the egg production look like,
is it seasonal laying or one every few weeks

ive researched blackhead, but really didnt get an answer on if it is in my area of south Louisiana. We have TONS of wild turkeys, im an avid hunter of them.

Depending on which variety is the father and which variety is the mother a Bourbon Red mating with a Royal Palm can either produce all Red Bronze offspring if the tom was the Bourbon Red or produce sex linked offspring where the Red Bronze are all males and the Golden Narragansetts are all females if the tom was the Royal Palm.

Yours all look like Red Bronze to me. You can find pictures and more information at Porter's Rare Heritage Turkeys.

Usually turkeys can begin to be sexable from photos starting at 3 months old and definitely by 6 months old.

Egg laying is seasonal, normally from spring to fall. Frequency of laying can depend on the individual bird with some laying 3 to 4 days in a row before skipping a day. Two days in a row is more common and some lay every other day.

Egg laying may cease for the year if a hen is allowed to go broody on her eggs and allowed to raise the poults.

So they mimic the wild turkey then. Our eastern turkey season is mar/apr , hens normally on the eggs around may / june.

thats when the sniper rifle and traps get broke out, tear the yotes & fox up, its a rush watching one run in to a call & let the gun do it job!

They're redder than a wild bronze coloration and standard bronze, but similar in pattern.

Bronze (from cackle)

edit; just looked at eastern wilds and they are similar to their redder coloration, but at least for the hens they seem less red & lighter brown all over than a red bronze

thats A beautiful bird on the bottom. Wana get an adrenaline rush. Call one of those suckers in from 1/2 mile away then have it drum and strut just out gun range for over an hour. watch that big paint brush swinging… Then just when it breaks that barrier the hen putts and he forgets all about your decoy. And turns walks away… u get back up at 3 the next morning to Do it all over again!

best bird i ever killed i chased for 5 days. Had a 11 inch beard, 1 3/8 spurs, 22 lbs
