My chickens just die here and there all the time and as you all know we put a lot of money into our chickens. I took some of the dead ones and had a necropsy done on them they did not text positive for anything. All that was said was that they were dehydrated and had no food in them, but I don't understand that bc they always have food and water whenever they want it! Can anyone help?? I don't want to get rid of my chickens but I can't keep spending so much money when they are just dying!! :(

What do you feed them? Do you free range at all? What do they drink out of? My hens were getting really dehydrated at one point so we switched from a waterer that we bought at the feed store to a 5gal bucket with "chicken nipples" on the bottom and they love that! It could be that they are picky eaters, or, if you don't free range, they want to so they're not eating the feed. Mine do that on rainy days when I don't let them out. They just look at the food like, "What the crap are you trying to feed us?"

Are you never having to refill their feeder? Surely you have noticed if they run of feed or if they never seem to run out of feed, right? If you are having to refill their feeders often, could something else be getting to their food and water, starving the birds?

I use the regular chicken waterers I tried the nipples but I didn't feel they were getting enough water I fill the waters everyday and I feed them everyday whether they run out or not I don't see how anything else can be getting it I have recently been giving them fodder with their feed but I have had problems way before that I have read and researched all I know to do. If there was something in the ground wouldn't it have showed up in the necropsy?

I had chickens when I was younger and I couldn't have made them die lol not that I would want to idk if its the land here or what
