Box poop

New layer is pooping in nesting box either before or after laying eggs. Frustrated because it's the box all the ladies like to lay in. Not sleeping in box just pooping.

Any tips or tricks to stop the behavior?

It might not be controllable. Some girls aren't good at shutting off the poop chute when laying, and can soil the eggs as they lay. Since this is a new layer she may resolve the issue as she matures and gets better control over the laying process.

Well I'll have to keep eye on it. Maybe I'll lock them out for a day or 2 to see if that helps resolve.

No, it won't help if she's pooping when laying.
Some birds anatomies don't close off the intestine when an egg is moving thru.
Have had a couple birds that always did that.....it's frustrating for sure, but not much to be done about it other than cull the pooper.
