I had a guy try that with me. Heck they have the gift cards hanging on end caps.

I do give money to people on occasion. I know they're going to buy booze or drugs, but it's better than having them steal money. We get robbed legally all the time. I've also given homeless people free quarter pounders when McD's used to have buy 1 get 1 free. They appreciate something besides booze sometimes. They're just making a living.

I believe (really I do) that I would have had the presence of mind to say something to that effect. "lets see how much is on it just to make sure" and then if it was a good deal I would jump on it!!! But if he wasn't interested in THAT, then well obviously it's a scam.

But I can TOTALLY see myself doing something like that if I got "store credit" on a card and didn't want to shop there anytime soon! It wouldn't bother me at all to walk up to people and offer them a 50$ card for like 35 or so if i needed the money and didn't want to shop at this place of business anymore. It would never have occured to ME that someone would think I was scamming them.

Now it makes me wonder about the cards on craigslist that people list. Where they got xmas gift cards and just want the cash. How do you actually find out if it's legit unless you meet them at the store and have it checked out TOGETHER???

Good tip, by the way.

You go to the store with them and have the store verify the amount on the card. A legitimate trader will not mind.

That is a favorite Craigslist scam, by the way.

omg Craiglist is full of scams it is an easy playground for that kind of crap

I am going to go to the store and look for this guy now it will be my mission to find one of these folks ..make them go to the register and see what it is worth

for families in need there are far better ways to earn money

and I always give money to the guy under the bridge in Seattle who has the sign saying "Pay a quarter to see the wino"

he is honestly a wino has been there for a very long time ...I worry if I dont see him and he is really a nice man ..and a wino not scamming anyone just stating the facts!

In my experience with Lowe's they do not do returns with gift cards. I've always gotten returns the same way I paid ( cash for cash , debit stuff returned to your card) You would do well to steer clear of these guys or as someone else said take it to the register to see what its worth. There was a scam in our area that dealt with the same type thing but it was at TJMaxx and employees were doing it with shoplifted stuff and then selling the gift cards ( kind of gives you an idea how well TJMaxx pays) a lot of innocent people got dragged through the papers and charged with misdemeanor type stuff just trying to get a bargain so be careful!
