Boy do I have a problem with my boy

Next time you have him on his back, pick him up by the feet and carry him around in front of the girls upside down. Reportedly, this helps tremendously... (I've never had to do this myself so far, but I will if and/or when opportunity knocks). Another thing is if he mounts one of your girls in front of you, chase him off her. (I have done this!!) Letting him know you won't tolerate that kind of behavior leads him to believe you're in charge - it's no less than THE top rooster would do if you had more than one in the flock.

YOU are the top "bird" and need to show him that. Right now, he's not convinced. All else fails? Freezer camp.

Thanks for the advice LilRed, I will for sure let him know he is not to mess with the girls in front of me but that will be next spring probably, I hope any way. But I have heard it is not a good thing to pick up ducks and carry them by their legs upside down. So don't think I'll try that stradegy.

I have to tell ya Liddy, I was thinking I wouldn't see any mounting until spring but I was surprised! We've been having unseasonably warm weather here (in the 80's) and my boy Flan was out in the kiddie pool doing his best to have his way with Chimichanga. She was totally cooperative and seemed not to notice he had no idea what he was doing!

She's only a couple weeks older than the boys but Quesadilla is a couple weeks younger and is totally offended if either of the boys tries to get anywhere near her.

That is to bad, i hope some of the ideas mentioned are of help. My guy wouldn't stop going after others.. i fixed him with me but he was still going after others in the home and was escalating to going after the other drake and my 3mo ducks.. so i sold him.

I dont think there is anyway she will eat him Oregon Blues, she raised this duck from a duckling in a house, so he is a pet.

well this afternoon I sat on the patio with the hose in my hand waiting for a chance to zap him good. It took a while before he started towards me and I was watching for that same behaviour and he had it ,so i waited till he got about 3 feet from me and let him have it, He was so surprised and ran for his life. He hasn't come around since. I know it's not over but at least I will be ready. How ever long it takes. I am just sad that I can no longer love on him and pet him, after all I was his mama from hatch. But I will not let that get in the way of straightening him out. I want him to be a part of the flock and a nice drake for his girls. Thanks again for all the advice and encouragement.

Well Diana they say practice makes perfect, so far I haven't seen that from Opie but after this morning I don't put anything past him. My adult drake isn't mating with is girls now and the gander is through for the year too so hopefully we'll get a break.

best of luck, i hope you can get it sorted, clearly he means a lot to you!

So frustrating when a beloved animal starts acting . . . well . . . you know. Like a jerk.

My guess is that with the new girls' arrival, he wants to shake up the heirarchy. So he's challenging you.

Good for you for not letting this thing go any further without explaining to him, in a way he will understand, that he's made a bad choice.

I pray the two of you will be able to enjoy sweetness again soon.

What a silly guy. Doesn't know how good he's got it.
