I am on my first batch of backyard chickens, and all were bought as pullets. My barred rock is going on 3 weeks old and has barely gotten any sort of tail feathers - as I've been told, females get the primary feathers first. all the others in (his?!) age group have their tail feathers - could this be a sign that I have a boy? Or do barred rocks just mature a little slower, lol. And so if it is a boy, I don't think i'll be able to keep him, what then? I surely don't want to eat him as they are being raised for eggs and as pets, not for meat. Any ideas? Feedback would be greatly appreciated as I am new at all of this. One thing, they are all happy healthy birds!
Thanx!
