They are 6 weeks old, barnyard mix. First one has strange comb and I have no idea how to determine the gender of that one. Second one has largest comb out of these three, but I have a cockerel with a way larger comb, so still clinging to a (false)hope it's a pullet. Third one I could bet my money on it's a girl. It's my first year having chickens so I would really appreciate the insights of seasoned chicken keepers. 😊

Those rusty colored wing bars apply to all species of chicken? Females don't have those? Sorry for the stupid question, but I've never heard of determining gender looking for those signs.

Yeah, not all breeds have them, but it's mostly a male trait. You can have females with redish/rusty colored shoulders, but it will generally look more even all around.

I'm a big newbie, but I would say 1 and 2 are cockerels. I'm not really sure at all on the 3rd one. They are young so I would watch the 3rd one.

On my brownie I had to give back because it was a cockerel he had A LOT of brown in his barred wings..he also had a big red comb and wattle :(
