Wow, how many tanks have you got? Good gracious. I have about 400 gallons of tanks (100, 49,39. 29, and multi 10s and 5's), but I use a biological filter plus the old whisper filters. I just rinse them, and occasionally sew them a new bag. I leave the charcoal as bacterial mediium. Works great, and I only do 10% water changes every 3 monthes. (mostly to clean the layer of grime out of the gravel)
