I know this isn't a sure thing, but I have read that you can tell the sex of barred rock chicks by their coloring. I have a new chick (first one) and she has dark legs that would indicate female, but a blurred head spot that would indicate male. What do y'all think?

Sorry about the quality of the pictures. -- Oh yeah...I was also surprised to see a tiny comb when she first hatched.

I'm sort of guessing, but I'd say male. When mine hatched, the males legs were washed down the front like that. The females had more.

The head does look more male. SpeckledHen is a lot more accurate, maybe she'll weigh in.

I was afraid of that....

My husband wanted to name "her" Wilma, since our daughter's chicken is named Fred. It looks like instead of Fred and Wilma we have Freida and William.

Thanks speckledhen, I was hoping you would chime in, although I really thought everyone else was right about William here. I hate I can't keep him once he starts crowing, he is such a sweet boy, loves to cuddle. Anyone looking for a new rooster, let me know.
