It is very common for reptiles and amphibians to squirt out a small amount of urine when they get frightened, such as when they get picked up. If anyone here has ever picked up a wild frog or turtle, for instance, they've probably been peed on.
It's not so common for birds to do it, but there's no reason why they shouldn't. Most likely, the OP's birds are just frightened.
I am glad I did a search on this, because I was wondering about my speckled sussex. I have three of them and when anyone picks them up, they spray clear liquid out! I also have barred rocks, and none of them do this. Weird. Anyway, I am glad to know that there is nothing unusual about it. Just kinda gross.
