Have some first hand experience with that one. I just happened to have hatched out several chicks, all having Barred Rock mothers, with different sires. All males were barred from the mothers, all females were basically solid black with just a hint of gold in the hackle on a few. The sires were Silver Phoenix, Cochin/Silkie cross and Easter Egger. Well, the Easter Egger crosses were different-no boys from that pairing. The girls were beautiful with lots of spangling. They are rooster-red's two broody hens, Iris and Hazel! Gorgeous girls, both of them.
