I got 20 chicks 3 mos ago. While they were growing, I noticed 2 I had no idea what they were. I looked them up & they were brabanters, 1 male, 1 female
Their mode of activity was to ALWAYS duck out of sight if they saw I was looking at them, the roo especially. It was almost like they were allergic to me looking at them. And good luck catching one! That roo was noticable even as a weekold chick
Feathers came in in slower, weird coloration and he never developed a tail like everyone else. Even at 2.5 months, hardly like a tail at all. Fast forward to the day I found him in classic Maraks paralysis, dead. Yes, I have Maraks on my property, it's a crapshoot. Murdoch's chicks are generally said to be vaxxed, but it's a roll the dice as if it works or not. The female seems to be okay, hides some but not like that roo.
I'm lucky I haven't lost anyone else this year, last year, of 30 chicks I had 15 left by the time eggs were coming along. 2 more were killed by neighbors dogs. He's been warned.
Mainly what I wanted to know is that hiding thing something that brabanters do or is it odd?/off? It was just so unusual!
