Brahma chicken colors!

I was not meaning this specific case. There are situations where one can breed different varieties, or even different breeds, together, and still breed to the standard. One has to know the genetics behind things, and do things for a purpose.

The rooster ended up passing away sadly but we are getting a light rooster for them....we are wanting to breed other colors not for the same colors that are out there.....you never get new colors without breeding them right?!

Then keep in mind that you may get some flak for posting on this board about your breeding efforts, as everyone on this specific board are talking to breed standards. I would post about your efforts on the 'General Breed Discussion' board, here https://www.backyardchickens.com/forums/general-breed-discussions-faq.14/

I think your mixes will be interested, so please post!!! I'm not trying to discourage you, I just wanted to point you to a board where your thread may be more appropriate to the crowd.

Its also about genetics that's what I'm posting on is the genetics side not necessarily the breed standard

Ok, which genes do you plan on working with? Which colors and/or patterns will you be working towards? What breeds and varieties will you be using to accomplish this?

I would like to breed them to where you can tell whether its a hen or rooster at birth and then add colors once I'm there

If you breed the light Brahma rooster to a buff hen the roosters are white with yellow and the hens are buff. I can't remember about the dark and light crosses but I'm gonna work with that

That is incorrect. A light male to a buff female will have silver females, and silver to silver with yellowing in males. Chicks should appear the same at hatch. The dark and light crosses will not be able to be sexed at birth either. So, what are you planning to use? What are you wanting to accomplish?
