Brahma molting question

I have a Brahma who is 11 months old, seems to be going through a molt.

The feathers on her feet look awful, they look like they are broken off and her scales look rough.

I have never had a feather foot bird before. Do their feet normally look bad when molting?

I looked closely and don't see any parasites or injuries, and everyone elses feet look ok.

I’m also interested in this as my Marans Rooster’s feet look awful, but I don’t see any SLM signs in anyone, and have been thinking it’s because of the feathers... I hope someone with more experience chimes in soon. Can you get a picture of her feet? This was my guys feet earlier this year. Also his molt seemed to start with his feet! I have another boy with lightly feathered feet, and his girls actually pluck his foot feathers, and he lets them! (They are clean legged girls, I guess they think his feet are strange?)

Is it possible she has scaly leg mites? Symptoms are raising of the scales and a dark substance under them. A few of my chickens are beginning to get scaly foot so I'm going to treat that today. The earlier you treat the quicker it is and better for the chicken as well.

I know mine are SLM free, I’ve been there sadly with some rescues, and it’s just my feather footed breeds that have ugly footsies.

I didn't see anything other than broken feathers and rough skin, and its dark now but I will try to catch her and get a good photo tomorrow.

Maybe it’s normal for feather footed breeds? Like my boy... the only raised scales are the ones the feathers are growing from, legs and toes look smooth and SLM free to me.

Do you get lots of mud where you live? That’s my current plague with the feather footed breeds. I have 7 Marans, and between 15-20 more with lightly feathered feet 1/4 to 1/2 Marans... we have had weeks of rain and the mud is just horrendous.

Mostly I’ve noticed the rough/ugly feet on my 15 month olds, the rooster is the worst looking but I’m fairly sure it’s just the feathers.
