I went to a fair that had a poultry show yesterday,
WOW
the Brahma's are HUGE:eek:

My daughter has 2 coming from ideal the 29th!!!

I have a cement block building and I think the chicken door needs to be bigger! I have 12inch by 12inch!

Do I need different if so how big?
Do they roost?
Do I need 2x4's? I have thick branches!
How high off ground?

I think I will make a separate area for my bantams & silkies (& I have more coming)

Your door is probably big enough. My 9 lb rooster makes it through a 7 by 9 door... to get to the nests!

They will roost but I wouldn't put the roosts more than a few feet from the ground so they don't injure their legs jumping down. Especially true when your birds start getting old.

Thick branches will work.

Congrats on your Brahmas. You'll love them. Mine are really sweet. They do roost. My roost are about 18" off the floor, except for the one that is step like. My single roost is a large limb and the step roost is made from 2x4's with the topp edges cut off. They roost on both. I have found that they are quiet birds, making little noise. Even the chicks I just hatched are alot quieter than other chicks. This is good as they are in my bathroom right now in a big rubbermaid tub. What kind did you order? I have 4 Dark hens that are almost a year old and 13 chicks that are light, dark, buff and black. Can't wait until they are all feathered out.

I have a bunch of light brahmas and they are BEAUTIFUL! I love watching them run around the yard... they look like they are wearing pantaloons!

I have a ladder like roost set up in my coop - it's about 4' wide, the "rungs" are about 12" apart, I used 1"x2" boards without a problem. The top rung is about 5' off the floor and my brahmas are always at the top.

My brahma rooster is the dominant rooster at the moment. He was the first to crow, crows the most, and crows the loudest. I love listening to him!
