Brand new chicks headed for coop and yard...a few questions

Hello.
i am new to a lot of this. I will be building the coop and run this weekend as our 6 week old chicks are about ready to move in. Before I do this I am a bit concerned about a few things around our property. We believe we have a large possum that is squating in a rear neighbors "junk" yard. We recently had a very curious turtle (he liked to explore) go missing, and after a month yet to return. We are concerned he may have gone the way of the possum. If I provide a locked coop and run how much should I be concerned about this possum? And is there anything else I should be worried/concerned about?

We lost a turtle for several months. Fortunately we had it marked with our address. A neighbor a block away brought it back after finding it in her yard! I liked the idea of the red blinking LED light, as possums are usually nocturnal.
