Hi everyone,
I'm new to raising chickens. I have an 18 week Easter Egger and Orpington. I did originally have two Orpingtons but, sadly, the neighbors dog got to it.

I love this site and it comes up every time I need to Google something. Thanks everyone for being so knowledgeable and sharing the info.

Welcome to BYC!

Sorry you lost one of your birds. I hope the others are safe from the neighbor's dog now, dogs get a lot of chickens because they like to "play" with them.

There is a lot of information available here and many, many helpful members. Feel free to ask questions and make yourself at home.

Nice to have you here!

Am thinking of getting 6 chickens? My coop when built will be 8'×8' and the run 25'L x 10' is this a good coop I know the run is more than adequate? Am opening to suggestion??

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! You might like to check out the BYC Learning Center, lots of good articles on all aspects of chicken keeping you’ll find useful with your new flock, there is a nice article in the Housing section on how much space you need for the birds you want. https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center The coop size you are planning should be plenty big enough for six birds.
