Bread Box Incubator

Thank you! So my next question ... perhaps a bit of an obvious one

, but if in a week I candle the eggs and figure out that some of the eggs are not fertilized, will they be good to eat still, or will they be toast?

Just because the eggs do nothing in a week doesn't mean they are not fertile. Many factors can effect the embryo development in the very early stages - in the late stages, too.

I personally would not eat the eggs that didn't develop. *shiver*

Today is day 13. I felt is was plenty long enough and I should have been able to see something in the 6 blue orpington eggs that were in the bread box. I candled this morning and clearly could see nothing.

The breadbox is unplugged and waiting to give it another try with another set of eggs.

What's your theory on what happened? Do you think it was the temp swings? Did the eggs appear to have been fertile at one point?

Just curious as I anxiously count down the days... 1/2 way to hatching day for my silky eggs!

Well...Bummer

Forge on and try again...I haven't built mine just yet, was waiting to see how your hatch went....

I think that when I sent them, proper contact at mating had not been made, however, aran's are fertile and mine in my own bator are developing, so I will send you more at the end of Nov and this time, they'll work! Velvet is laying and now Skye's are properly fertilized. I think it may have been a butt-fluff issue, which was resolved. Sorry, I couldn't believe after all that mating activity, that hers would not have been fertile, and I did incubate a couple really early on that had minor development, so it didnt occur to me this would happen. Anyway, we'll make it right for you, I promise! At least you have the Ameraucanas to concentrate on till we get you more Blue Orp eggs. We'll blame it on Miss Velvet, my Blue Diva, and her taking a vacation and making Skye do all the work, LOL.
