How old do the chooks have to be to start giving them this mixture..with or without the added buttermilk to keep their crops from becoming impacted? So far I have just given it to my grown chickesn but at what age can they be started on this???

Carrie, most people dont give it unless there is a problem, but the way it seemed to improve the circulation, I think it might be a good treat on occasion, just as a preventative. I doubt they'd need anything till they are really eating grass and other things of that nature. The buttermilk I put on mine was just to soften up the bread and because the acidity of it is good for digestion and to expel worms. My youngsters that are six weeks have just had a plate of yogurt, buttermilk and a tsp of olive oil in it with wheatgerm sprinkled on top. They loved it on a hot day.

Thanks Cynthia, after all you went through I prefer to use it as a preventative here!! My chooks are free ranging now and are always getting into the piglets feed pan, too. So I will be sure they get a small dosage of this.
