I have read so many different things but I guess I still have questions. I have a chicken who is about 1 year old. She used to be much heavier than most of my chickens. Recently (over the last week or so)I noticed she had lost a lot of weight and her crop is very large and solid.
I Recently started adding acv to my chickens waterers. As I read it helps for many things. But to bring you to today I realized this chickens crop was hard and big. So I gave her some vegetable oil, separated her from the other chickens and gave her water. After the oil and some massaging of her crop it does seem to be more squishy and less hard.

I did order some grit as I assumed the chickens had enough sand to do the job.

How long do I keep her from food?
I know she will die without good but also has a high chance of dieing if the crop doesn't release it's contents and this is my first time dealing with an impacted crop.

Should I buy probiotics for my chickens?

Thank you for any input all suggestions are encouraged vet is not an option for me.

Chilled coconut oil cut into small pieces to peck is good to use 1-2 tsp once or twice a day. That way they can take it themselves and not choke on the oil. Does she lay eggs? What does she eat including any extras? They do okay on just chicken feed without grit, but any other foods, grasses, bugs, etc require some grit. Some of our soilmay have tiny rocks, but not alway. I just put a small amount of granite poultry grit out every few days in a pan, and they take what they need.

I would keep massaging her crop several times a day. Give her access to water all of the time. In the morning if she is doing okay, give her a slurry of watery egg and a spoonful of chicken feed made thin. Plain greek yogurt with live cultures can provide some probiotics with a spoonful per day. Recheck her crop at daylight before she eats or drinks anything. Here is a good article on crop problems:

She does usually lay eggs. All my girls get egg layer crumbles and nutreena harvest blend. Sometimes we tear up weeds and throw em in the coop but they stay in the run and are not normally in the yard for foraging.
Ok I plan on checking her crop again in a bit.
