Bread/Pastry Themed Hatch-a-long!

Good morning! Woke up to lots of fluffy butts! Now I get to try and figure out who is who!

13 and 1 are not pipped yet so I actually think I’m going to at least make a safety hole. I’d rather assist if needed and make sure now than wait too long because I always end up waiting too long! 13 was wiggling yesterday so I want to make sure she has enough air and isn’t stuck. I’m not very confident about what’s going on with 1 but I’m worried maybe shrink wrapped. She had a large (nothing insanely big, but still) air cell on day 18, so if she needs help I want to make sure I get to her before she’s too stuck if she isn’t already!

However, I’m so relieved to say that 13 is alive! I candled, saw internal pip, then carefully opened a small hole. Luckily it was right near the beak, she started peeping quietly at me, I made a small hole for her to get some fresh air. She is still ā€œchompingā€ which indicates she’s working on absorbing that yolk still so I put her back. I’m glad I opened the egg and now I can relax knowing she has enough oxygen and has a nice start to breaking out of the shell. I will check in a few hours and oil up the membrane if I need to. It’s still pretty humid in the incubator and she does not seem distressed, just taking her time.

I am wishing a little that I would have checked on 1 yesterday because I had an inkling something was wrong when there were no pips and no movement. She was just the wrong way around. Not sure if I could have helped her enough to save her but I think with every hatch I learn more and more!

Pictures to come this afternoon!! :wee

#1 didn’t make it. :( she was in the right position but facing the complete wrong end of the egg
I am so sorry about #1. :hugs However this hatch seems to be a great success! :woot
