Hi, my drake injured himself, I’m not sure how, and was limping one afternoon. However by the next day, it was 100x worse. He was barely using the leg. I took him to the vet.. but bc of covid I couldn’t go in with him. I talked to the dr over the phone and was explaining that he is basically hopping on one foot.. but the dr said he was walking on, probably bc of stress of being there. I had them do xrays (I never saw them, I’m calling on Monday to have them emailed to me) and I’m worried they x-rayed the wrong leg.. all he said was that there was inflammation in the hip joint basically, and put him on a anti inflammatory/pain reliever. The meds don’t seem to be doing anything. His leg is very hot today, there’s no swelling of his leg, looks the same as the other.. no blood or anything. Is there any way to know if is broken... or just a bad sprain? I am hesitant to believe the dr without being able to see the xray. I am very stressed, he looks like he’s in so much pain. I’ve also tried to do water therapy for him too.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. He’s only 3

You could let him sit in water for the weightlessness a lot for a few days, or as much as possible. That will help keep the weight off.

But trying to pick him could stress him out too.

I would ask for copies of the X-rays. And I'll tell you why.

10 years ago or so I had chest X rays done at a hospital. And I had a bunch of scar tissue in the lungs. When they showed it to us and talked to us I knew that was right.

But then like 5 years later, another X ray didn't show any scar tissue. And they also couldn't find problems with me on the X ray that I knew were there. I'm worse now, so I'm pretty sure there should be more scar tissue not less.

I have reason to believe that many people are cheaters in healthcare of various forms. People want the salaries but don't want the work.

And I've seen cheaters my whole life.

I know a guy trying to become a cop who was busted for cheating in college, from having his wife go in to do his college tests for him. They caught her in the testing center.

And when I was in college years and years ago, I was already competing against cheaters.

So even if this guy isn't a cheater himself its a good thing to keep them honest.

I knew some tire shops that would rip off the old people going in, by telling them they needed new suspension and not actually doing anything also, while charging them a lot.

There's so much cheating now. Its really bad.

Xrays dont show soft tissue. If the leg was broken it would show, but it wont show things like inflammation. Sounds like he does not have a broken leg. If you can kerp him isolated and in a small cage so he cant walk around that will help him heal but it wont be popular. I had a limpy duck but not quite that bad. She did heal on her own but trying to keep up with the flock was rough on her.

One of my ducks done something similar. Not sure what happened but she could barely walk and was in alot of discomfort. The vet couldn't find any breaks or reason and gave her some anti inflammatories and unfortunately that's the way he left me.i gave her the benefit of the doubt. And after weeks of her not leaving the coop she finally started to hobble about .she has never recovered and still hobbles about to this day . Im dont think shes in pain or I would have had her euthanized but she does rest alot more than the others and doesn't give herself too much to do . I'd recommend closing him in and separating him for a week or two as he will want to go with the flock.if it's a sprain or a break the only way to mend it is rest but try telling a duck that .hahaha. hope he will b ok

If they did the wrong leg they shouldn't be practicing veterinary medicine. I'm just going to agee they did do the right leg, and maybe its a sprain of some sort. I would do a little bit of water therapy, keep up with the anti-inflammatory and pain relievers, maybe administer some B vitamins for leg health, keep him in a soft bedded area and hopefully, he'll be better soon.
