I have a royal palm hen who is about 11 months old that has gone broody.... and I CANNOT break her up. I've tried everything. She's been broody for about three weeks, and she stopped laying completely a week ago.
I don't think she is eating enough because she is too worried about sitting. I've been forcing her up as much as possible, but she gets a sip of water and eats a couple of bites and that's it. I've locked her up, I've separated her from the nests, she will either try to brood wherever I put her, or she will go try to hide somewhere and brood. I'm frustrated, and I'm worried about her health.
This is my first year with turkey hens. They are much more determined than a chicken. All my broody hens that I didn't want to hatch were easy to break up. This turkey is quite a different story! I'm not getting turkey eggs from my hens on a regular enough basis to get a clutch right now. I've got one hen that just hatched, the broody hen, and one hen who just isn't laying yet.
