I have a Pekin and a Rouen duck. They are about 30+ days old. They have been kept inside at night while it has been cold and outside in a Chicken "igloo" house the rest of the time. The ducks only seem to want to go inside the house to sleep. They stand by the back door like a dog wanting inside. I have to place them in the outside house and close the door. I'm guessing they want to be with me. When I'm outside doing chores and then go back in the house they start quacking really loud and they go by the patio door and look inside. I think they are just getting used to being alone but my fear is that I'll always have to be there to settle them down. What are your thoughts about this?

awww I wish my ducks loved me that much!! Mine were very happy to move outside, and "tolerate" me for treats. I thought maybe it was because they were a couple of days old so when I got my next set 2 of the 4 I got were hatched that day and the other 2 were just a day or two old. But alas... they are just as happy moving outside (they are spending day outside, night inside at the moment) Maybe it is because mine are in a brooder??? Did you let yours run around? If I ever had one got that attached to me I've already made my mind up I will be putting diapers on it and letting it inside. I love my ducks more than they love me though I think lol

Took this picture this morning after I fed them. You'll see they are by the door wanting in to be with me.

They have the whole back yard (fenced in) to roam around. They won't go out and roam unless I'm outside with them.

Thanks for the reassurance on them becoming more independent in the next few weeks.
