how old does a chick need to be before you can allow it to perch, i believe it is damaging to let them perch too soon.

I'm not sure what you mean. My chicks will perch when they get around to it. Some do it younger than others, but I just let them decide. In the brooder I have a little perch that isn't far off the ground. Then in my pen for older babies they have 2 at different levels and they decide which they want to get on. Of course when they move to the hen house, they perch with the older ones on a much higher perch.


It's completly natural for them to perch I just let them do it when they are ready. Each chick is different on when they do this.
