My 2 year old hen started breathing with her mouth open and a little wheezing yesterday. She was not moving around much either. Other than that she seems to be alright, she laid her egg yeaterday a usual. Could it just be a cold. Our weather has been up and down lately. We are in the mid west. Any ideas?

How hot is it there? It may be heat stress. Is she the only open mouth breathing? How does her poo look? Have you seen her eating/drinking?

They do that to cool off as they don't have sweat glands. Unless she is presenting other signs of distress I would make sure they have shade during the day and fresh water that doesn't sit out in the sun.
