Can anyone explain the inheritance of cushion combs and breda (no comb). I have buff chanteclers from a hatchery. At first I thought I had three with pea combs and only one with a cushion. Well, the birds are over a year now and I am beginning to wonder if the cushion comb one is actually a breda. I have a partridge chantecler with a correct cusion comb to compare and this buff rooster still appears to have no comb. If this is true and I keep him to breed am I understanding correctly that he will not pass on a dominant cushion comb gene because breda is recessive to everything? What exactly is the genetics of cushion? Is it the same as RR/PP or Rr/Pp or rose and pea together? Or is RR/PP actually walnut comb? I'm confused about that.
If he is breda will he be a blank slate to the comb type of whatever hen he is bred to? Or can he still carry the cushion comb genes?
So, can anyone explain exactly what goes on with the breda gene?
