Buff egg is still chipping away 👍🏼

The call eggs haven’t changed. One isn’t moving much at all, the other is but no progress. Is this a big enough air hole? It’s literally the size of a pin prick. I was too scared to do too much

Okay I opened up the two cal eggs, added Vaseline, and put them back in the incubator. Fingers crossed they survive the night!

Ok. I poked the air holes at 10 last night so I’ll give them 4 more hours before I attempt to help. Ugh. Not excited about that

Its ok!
Any progress with them this morning?

If you feel like you need to finish the hatch for them here's what you need (in case you don't already know):

-Tweezers
-Syringe with water (in case of dried/stuck membrane)
-small cuticle scissors (I ONLY use these if the tweezers won't break a piece of shell or membrane)

I always soak my scissors and tweezers in chlorahexadine for a few minutes to sterilize them but rubbing alcohol will work also.

DON'T STRESS. I know it's hard, I was terrified the first time I had to do it.

Since the membrane is already opened, slowly and gently peel off what you can with tweezers. Once you get to a part that is under the shell, just gently try to pull the shell off piece by piece. And remember- it does get bloody when doing this so don't let that scare you either thats the membrane. If you come to a piece you need to cut, just make sure to pull it as far away from the duckling that you can before using the scissors so you don't injure the baby.

I try to open just the top part, leaving the bottom half to act as a bowl just in case there's still some yolk they need to soak up.
Most of the time the baby will pop out on its own once its little legs feel the freedom lol.

I opened the call eggs (previous post) but haven’t touched the buff eggs. I’m getting a little anxious about the one with the bruise that popped on the wrong end— 48h since internal pip, 24 since external pip, no progress in about 14 hours. Still breathing but no peeping.

I would intervene on that one today, I think that sweet baby needs some help.

How big is the external pip on that one now?

Okay I helped the buff duck with the bruise. Looking strong but def bled a few times just clearing its beak. V sticky membrane on its face

The duff egg with the bruise that I assisted hatched much earlier than I anticipated. Shortly after I assisted the second time when there were still a decent amount of veins that needed to recede. Duckling looks fine, teeny lil bellybutton but nothing drastic. I’m concerned about what’s left in its shell tho. Does this seem okay? Is there anything extra I should do for the duckling?
