Both scenarios are possible. If you’ve had a lot of unknown deaths in your flock(s), then that could point to your birds already having Marek’s.

I definitely have not had any significant number of deaths in the flock before or after the arrival of the Bredas. So I'm still thinking it came in with the Bredas.
