Hello my local farm supply store has straight run assorted ducklings and i was looking for tips on determing the breed and gender of the ducklings. I dont really want any pekins and would prefer mainly hens.

well unless you know how to vent sex you'll be stuck with st. run, here is what I do, I take a good look at the ducklings for a minute or two, then you'll be able to pick out the bigger yellow pekins from the runners, or buff. Then I pick put the smallest ducklings I can find that have a some light brown or tan on the their faces. Last year I picked out six from about 50 and there were 3 different rouen, runner and pekins. I all of the six I picked out were runners and 4 out of the six were hens. Hope this helps

I agree vent sexing. I would do like J3172 said and just do best guess. Hen tend to be smaller but not always. It is easyer to sell/giveaway drakes than roosters, so if you try and get any drakes it should be easy to sell/giveaway.
