The RIR is what is abit confusing, since both birds are red.@MysteryChicken This is Brandy and her RIR flock mate. They are the same age. When you see them side by side, you can see that Brandy is more orange or gold. Killian, the RIR, is more red and has bright yellow legs. Brandy is also much floofier.View attachment 3644006

That’s how all of my first crosses looked like. They either had a the tiniest bit of speckling or no speckling.She is not redcap.
I didn’t realize about the speckled gene not coming through. I hatched a bunch of eggs from this SS hen and they all came out basically reddish. A couple of the cockerels had some speckling on their chests, but nothing impressive.
